In the winter there are snow sports for all the family. The ski areas are linked by lifts and there is a regular free ski-bus service which runs through the valley from Abondance to Chatel and Pre-la-Joux where you will find multi-lingual ski schools offering classes at all levels for individuals and groups. See our Winter page for more information.

In summer

Summer in the Alps

In summer the mountains are carpeted with flowers and the alpine meadows tinkle with the sound of cowbells. If you enjoy relaxing in the local atmosphere then why not take a gentle stroll to the village square and enjoy a coffee at one of the cafes before browsing the local speciality shops.

A wide range of services are available in the village including restaurants, cafes, a small supermarket, boulangerie, patisserie, boucherie, delicatessen, pharmacy, banks, post office and ski shops. The Franco Suisse cafe has free wi-fi and is run by a very friendly and helpful owner. Sunday is market day and the village square is filled with a variety of stalls selling meat, vegetables and local produce such as honey and Abondance cheese, as well a clothes and gifts.

A large and varied range of Spring and Summer activities are available here. Apart from sight-seeing the area offers opportunities for walking, mountain biking, paragliding, swimming, kayaking, rafting and fishing. Other local activities include rock climbing, via ferrata, equestrian trecking and the exhilarating ‘Fantasticable’ zip-wire from the top of the Rochassons ski lift. See our Summer page for more information on activities.

The ski area in Abondance has re-opened. To see a video about the re-opening, click here.

Snow permitting, this lift is only a few minutes by ski from our chalet.
